Children (5 - 18 years) - £65 per session

I can offer online therapy to young people, 15-18 years however this would be dependant upon an assessment of the clients needs. Under 15 years, I can offer face to face therapy only.

Are sessions confidential?

Issues discussed between us will remain confidential with the following exceptions:

If I become concerned about your safety, or the safety of others, we would discuss together, and in the first instance I would seek your permission to share the information with an appropriate third party, i.e. your GP or a point of contact previously agreed. In exceptional circumstances, cases of serious risk of harm to yourself or another, I would have to consider breaking confidentiality without your consent.

I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework and as such commit to work with a supervisor. From time to time I may take aspects of our work to supervision, however your identifying details will always remain anonymous. The Ethical Framework can be viewed at https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/

What if you're not the right therapist for me?

I strongly believe that a good therapeutic outcome is largely dependent on the quality of the relationship that the client and their therapist share. Usually, we should get a good sense of how we might get along from our initial meeting. There is no obligation for you to stay in therapy with me and I will do my best to refer you to another therapist if you feel that is the right choice for you.

How long will sessions last?

For adults, each session will last 50 minutes and will take place at a set time each week. For children aged 5-11, the length of the sessions will depend on the age and needs of the child, and will be discussed in the initial assessment.

FAQs (Children)

Who will attend the first meeting?

I will see parents on their own for a preliminary meeting before completing an assessment/first session with your child. This initial session is vital for me to gather information, and it allows parents to freely express their concerns.

How do I explain therapy to my child?

Most children do not ask to see a therapist, but if they are struggling emotionally you may be surprised at their willingness to attend. Adolescents, on the other hand, are at the developmental stage, hence they may be reluctant to see a therapist. However, it is my experience that when teenagers are experiencing difficult feelings, they may be somewhat relieved when they meet a therapist.

Will the therapist tell me what my child talks about?

One of the cornerstones of therapy is confidentiality. In other words, the details of the content of the sessions will not be discussed by the therapist during the review meetings. However, you will receive general feedback. Your child, on the other hand, can tell anyone what is happening in the therapy sessions but might decide not to do so. Young people vary in how much they wish to talk about what happens in the sessions. It is a good policy to avoid asking questions and just to let your child decide how much he/she wishes to share with you.
